Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Process

Why is it important to acclimate the wood before installation?
This helps avoid excessive shrinkage after installation. Roughly two weeks before the start of installation, we’ll arrive with the wood so it can acclimate to the environment of the house. We measure the moisture level until it drops below 7%.

What is dustless sanding?
This process creates less dust than the standard sanding process. Nearly all the dust is collected in our Bona Atomic DCS Dustless System. All of our sanders are attached to this system. Although it’s called a “dustless” process, in reality it’s not completely dust-free. There will always be a small amount of dust created and released into the air during any hardwood floor finishing process.

Can I enter the space after the finish has been applied?
Though we use water-based finishes with low-chemical emissions, we recommend to stay vacant 4 hours after application.

Are you certified?
Yes, each of us have a LÄGLER Premium Sanding Technology Certificate. Which covers the historical advances in the treatment of hardwood floors. Proper handling techniques. Job safety in dust emissions and fire hazards. Official regulations of industry organizations. Application of sanding techniques to achieve optimal sanding pattern. Grit sequences. Model maintenance, application and operation of LÄGLER equipment.

What type of products do you use?
We primarily use Bona, a pioneer of water-based finishes that have no harmful fumes. These products are designed for optimal shine, color, slip resistance, and durability.

Floor Care Tips

How should I clean my new hardwood floors?
We recommend vacuuming your floors as often as you’d vacuum a carpet. Brush attachments work beautifully. Please do not use beater bars—these can damage the finish. Also, note that some vacuum wheels can scratch the finish. Sweep or use an untreated dust mop daily or as needed, but do not use a household dust treatment as this may cause your floor to become slick, dull the finish, or interfere with re-coating.

How often should I re-coat my floors?
The finish on your hardwood floors will naturally wear down over time. To keep your floors pristine, we recommend re-coating every 2 – 4 years. Feel free to call us back whenever you’re ready.

What kinds of rugs and mats should I use?
Dirt and grit are like sandpaper for any wood floor. To prevent them from entering your home, place dirt-trapping, walk-off mats at all exterior doors. We also recommend adding throw-rugs or small sections of carpet just inside entrances. Keep door mats as clean as possible. In kitchens, use area rugs at high-spill locations and work stations (stove, sink, refrigerator). Cotton is the best fabric for any mat because it’s easy to wash.

Will I see gaps between the planks?
Sometimes tiny gaps appear between edges of boards, especially in dry conditions. This problem is usually fixed by installing a humidifier. Balancing the moisture in your house creates a healthier environment for both your floors and your family.
